Visitors rule Dumaguete Adventure Marathon

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Visiting runners ruled the men & women above the age of 17 categories of the Dumaguete Adventure Marathon last Sunday, November 20.

Josphat Kiptanul of Kenya  won the men’s division of the 42km adventure marathon while another Kenyan, Ben Kipaski, won the men’s division of the 21k half marathon.

Kiptanul, 25, clocked 2:43:21 for the adventure marathon. “It was a really good adventure run,” Kiptanul, who had also joined several full marathons and half marathons before the DAM.

“The hardest part is the way going to an uphill and when you pass through stones and bushes. I just walked a little bit,” he said.

Unknown to most runners, Kiptanul and most of the Kenyans had been training for a month in Dumaguete before the contest. “My competitors were also strong but I had an advantage so I used it to win,” he said. (more…)

As of Thursday, the total number of participants reached 3,349 and more are expected to register. First timers need to prepare a few essentials–proper running shoes, suitable attire, race bibs (with the timing chip attached), and most importantly, the willingness to run in this event. There will be water stations at almost every kilometer to take care of your hydration needs. (more…)

Testimonials

How would I rate this Dumaguete full marathon? I say we kill the organizer who was running with me side by side up to the 28th km. mark. But before we kill him, let's thank him for a job very well done! This is one hell of a mara thon but feels like you are in heaven after reaching the finish line. Let's thank the organizer for the killer route, definitely not a PR route. Let's thank him for the plenty water stations which were 1 km. apart. This is even much better than the Rio organized races where water stations are 2.5 kms. apart. Let's thank the organizer for the volunteer and very accommodating marshalls who were mostly students from Foundation University. Btw, each water station had plenty of water, gatorade, bananas and even some chippy snacks from the volunteers. Let's thank the organizer for the ambulance vehicles which...
