OUR MARATHON

The Dumaguete Marathon 2009 will offer a truly breathtaking running experience this coming November 22. Increased awareness of rice as the staple food of Asia is the underlying theme of the event. For those of you who join, the Marathon will combine sport and exercise in beatiful Pacific Island with the satisfaction of knowing that the fees you pay will help to saveĀ  the World famous Banaue Rice terraces from destruction.

Our run begins in the city of Dumaguete, a provincial capitol city on the island of Negros, facing the Philippine Sea in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. From the flatlands near the city, runners follow the land as it gently rises toward the island’s mountanious spine: first on the paved roads near the city, and then on red earth trails up into and through the cool highlands, finally a high point of 390 meters (1297 ft) before descending back to the city below.

Along the way, you will pass through a varied landscape of shady coconut groves and breezy upland plateaus with distant vistas of the Philippine sea, accross two rivers, and through tropical farming villages with names like Balili, Candau-ay, and Palinpinon.

If you have ever dreamed of an emerald green island with monsoon breezes and roads to run on lined with coconut palms and mango trees.

This Dumaguete Marathon will be your running experience of a lifetime!
